The Australian Livestock & Property Agents Association (ALPA) is the National Peak Industry body for livestock and property agents. ALPA represents more than 1,200 agency businesses across Australia. Collectively this group plays an important role in Livestock, Wool, Merchandise and Rural Property sales and marketing. ALPA Members handle in excess of 97% of agency business Australia Wide. It is one of the largest organisations of small rural business men and women, relied on to protect the interests of agents and producers nationally.

ALPA membership is a signature of professionalism in the industry.

DON STEELE (AM) RETIRES:
After 62 years in the industry Don has decided it's time to retire.  Don finished on the 31st of December 2008.  We wish Don all the very best for his retirement.  We are certainly going to miss his thoroughness and depth of knowledge of our industry. 
ALPA are pleased to announce that Andrea Lethbridge was appointed in November to replace Don as Northern Regional Manager and our office has now moved to Milton.

ALPA (YAC) Young Auctioneers Competitions  2008

SA AUCTIONEERS SCHOOL & YOUNG AUCTIONEERS COMPETITION:
The 2008 South Australian ALPA Young Auctioneers Competition Final was a small field due to those eligible being under 25. The winner was announced as Josh Manser of Southern Australian Livestock Pty Ltd, Naracoorte with runner up Luke Schreiber of Elders Ltd, Keith. 

QLD YOUNG AUCTIONEERS COMPETITION RESULTS:
The dinner auction raised $7,710 for the McGrath Foundation.
Congratulations to 
Dane Pearce, Watkins & Co – Roma the winner of the 2008 QLD YAC and Trent McKinlay, Landmark – Emerald as runner-up.
Since the competition, runner-up Trent McKinlay  has tendered his resignation and his intention to leave the industry, so third place position, Miles Pfitzner will now represent Queensland in the National final in April.

ALPA AGM REPORT:
Friday October 3rd saw over 100 ALPA members from across Australia congregate at the Mercure Hotel Brisbane to recount the Association’s activities and achievements of 07/08 and project its ambitions and direction for 2009. Business that arose from the AGM was topical and included the full support of the ALPA Policy of opposing Mob Based Movements for sheep from Saleyards only. 


The ALPA AGM is always a wonderful opportunity for members to get together and the numbers this year were a true reflection of this. See Photos... 

MIKE NIXON AWARD 2008:
Congratulations to all state finalists for the Mike Nixon Award. On what was described by judges as a very hard task, the final result was awarded to Andrew McCallum, Grant Daniel Long, Longreach, Queensland. Andrew now heads off to Canada and to the Calgary Stampede in 2009 with a $1,000 prize money, compliments of Rural Press.

ALPA LIFE MEMBERSHIP:
Congratulations to Peter Druitt from Peter Druitt and Co P/L, Mudgee, NSW on being honored with ALPA Life Membership. Peter had contributed for more than 10 years as a Board member of the Stock & Stations Agents Assoc and ALPA in many different capacities and on various committees that have helped shape the direction of our industry.
Life Membership was also awarded to Don Steele AM for his contribution to the industry for 62 years. Don started his career with Australian Estates Company in 1947. In 2006 Don was appointed Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for services to the livestock industry in Australia.
