ALPA News & Events:

The 2020 ALPA AGM meeting was conducted virtually in line with recent changes to the Corporations Act 2001 which enables companies and boards to meet their legal obligations and convene annual general meetings online. Despite our best intentions to conduct a face-to-face event to catch up with members and showcase our valued sponsors, COVID-19 restrictions and protocols have curtailed our ability to do this in 2020.

Key announcements included:

  • Life memberships for: David Corcoran and Viki Thomas
  • 2020 ALPA ACM Agency Award winner, Jake Smith, Elders Rural Services Gundagai

The date and location of the 2021 AGM is still to be confirmed.

2020 ALPA Agency Award Winner

Congratulations to Jake Smith, Elders Rural Services Gundagai announced as this year’s winner of the ALPA ACM Agency Award. Jake received the Mike Nixon Shield for Excellence in Marketing, $1,000 cash, and a fully paid trip to an Ag Tour of his choice, compliments of Quadrant Ag Tours and ACM.

Andrew Norris, editor of The Land, was one of three judges who interviewed the finalists and determined the national winner. Andrew said, “There have always been great entries coming in each year. This year our winner came down to the ability to value-add at every level and capitalise on opportunities all the way through.”

Jake has been in the agency industry for seven years. His submission for the award covered the marketing initiative required in the sale of the Heavin farm aggregation of over 9100 acres totalling $18,220,000.

The charity ALPA will support in 2020 will be Aarons Wish and the Brain Cancer Foundation. Aaron’s Wish was established by the Iori family in 2013, in memory of their son Aaron, who lost his brave battle with Brain Cancer earlier that year, and in the memory of many others who have been touched by Brain Cancer.
It was Aaron’s wish that awareness be raised of the devastation of a Brain Cancer diagnosis and that critical Brain Cancer research is desperately underfunded.
Brain Cancer is the leading cause of Cancer deaths in children under 10 and young people under 39. Each year 1600 patients are diagnosed and 1200 will die
All funds raised are donated to the Cure Brain Cancer Foundation research in the hope of finding better treatments and one day a cure.
Together we can make a difference!
